- Aaron Donald, 35, worked out for the Rams on Sunday and on Aug. 5 without deciding whether to return.
- Los Angeles is the Super Bowl favorite at +475, a price that implies about 17.4%.
- The Rams are +275 to win the NFC, ahead of Seattle at +675 and San Francisco at +825.
- The NFC West at +250 is the shortest price on the board for the division that produces the champion.
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams listed Aaron Donald as a tryout player on the NFL transaction wire Sunday, the second time this month the three-time Defensive Player of the Year has worked out at the team facility. Donald has not committed to a comeback, and the Rams remain the Super Bowl favorite at +475.
A Second Tryout Listing In 11 Days
The wire entry is a paperwork mechanism, not a signing. Donald remains retired and under contract, so the club logs a session with him under the same tryout designation it would use for a street free agent. The first of the two listings was filed Aug. 5, the second Sunday.
Nothing in either listing obligates player or team. Donald has not played a snap since the 2023 season, two full years away from live football at an age where interior linemen rarely add anything back.
He began working out again after the Rams traded for Myles Garrett on June 1, sending Cleveland edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick. That deal is the reason the comeback talk exists, and it is already in the price.
McVay Will Not Attach A Date
Sean McVay said Saturday that the Rams hold loose internal dates but will not hand Donald one of them, and that he has no timeline for a Donald decision.
“I’m hopeful that it will be sooner rather than later but I also want to respect when he does feel like that clarity will come,” McVay said. He added that he did not want to “put some sort of invisible deadline on something that doesn’t exist in my mind for him.”
That silence is what the board is pricing. A futures market values the roster that exists, and Donald is not on it: he stays on the reserve/retired list with no move filed to change that.
The Favorite’s Price Is Already Short
The Rams sit atop the Super Bowl, NFC and winning-division boards in the season’s current betting odds. At +475, no team is priced shorter to win Super Bowl LXI.
| Team | Odds to win Super Bowl LXI |
|---|---|
| Los Angeles Rams | +475 |
| Buffalo Bills | +1000 |
| Seattle Seahawks | +1200 |
| Baltimore Ravens | +1300 |
| San Francisco 49ers | +1500 |
A +475 price pays $475 on a $100 stake and implies roughly 17.4%. That figure is what the number assumes about a Rams title, not a forecast of one. Whether Los Angeles wins the Super Bowl more often than 17.4% of the time is the entire bet, and the gap between a true chance and an implied one is the only place value lives.
Buffalo at +1000 is the next name up, 525 points behind, and that distance exists in August before a regular-season snap has been played.
What A Signing Would And Would Not Be Worth
The room above a short favorite is thin. Adding a future Hall of Fame interior rusher to a +2000 roster would move that number hard, because there is distance to travel. Adding one to a team already priced as the best in football buys far less, since the market has spent most of its available ground.
Donald’s own uncertainty band works the same direction. A 35-year-old two seasons removed from contact is not a known quantity a book can price with confidence, and the safe treatment of an unknown is a small adjustment rather than a large one.
The Garrett trade is the useful comparison. That was a completed transaction with terms, a contract and a snap count, and it repriced the Rams’ front. A tryout listing has none of those things.
The conference number tells the same story. At +275 to win the NFC, Los Angeles sits 400 points clear of Seattle at +675, and the NFC West at +250 is the shortest price for the division that produces the champion.
| Team | Odds to win the NFC |
|---|---|
| Los Angeles Rams | +275 |
| Seattle Seahawks | +675 |
| San Francisco 49ers | +825 |
| Detroit Lions | +900 |
| Philadelphia Eagles | +1000 |
Until a contract is filed rather than a workout logged, those prices stay where they are. McVay said no update is expected on any fixed schedule.
